The Kommandant’s Girl

books

The Kommandant’s Girl by Pam Jenoff

Weirdly engaging woman-in-the-resistance story, but silly coincidences and hot-for-hitler romance.

The copy given me by a friend did not have this version of the cover. If I’d seen this, I wouldn’t have read it. No wonder they changed it.

Red Notice by Bill Browder

Financial wunderkind battles corruption in Putin’s Russia. Superfluous autobiographical details.

Update: A December 2016 poll shows 39% of Americans admire Putin. This is ignorance of the highest order and a clear argument for the importance of books. Without books, people are condemned to believe what any amoral despotic would-be autocrat tells them, even believing that his partner in crime, a blood-stained tyrant, deserves their approval.
